Water Body, a new work I have been deeply involved with over the last 12 months has opened this weekend in London. It is an artwork made in collaboration with a truly luminous group of collaborators including: Marshmallow Laser Feast, Robert Macfarlane, Ludmilla Balkis and illustrator Elena Landinez. The piece, which expands upon a version of the work that is currently on show in ARTIS Aquarium in Amsterdam is now open in London, as part of the BFI London Film Festival and you can book tickets here.
The Water Body installation is located underneath Trafalgar Square, in the crypt of St. Martins-in-the-Fields, which has a very particular resonance for me, as a place I visited often on trips with my family as a child. It also means that as you sit to experience the work, you are only a few metres away from the buried spring waters of the River Tyburn, one of London’s hidden rivers, that flows under Trafalgar Square.
To all of the humans and non-humans involved in the making of this piece, thank you - it has been such a privilege exploring and listening to the huge breadth of life and vibrancy along the Thames, and a rare treat to being guided and inspired by such a beautiful array of thinkers and makers to journey in and through water, to consider how we might encourage ourselves and others into a deeper more sustainable interrelation with this life and living source.
There is more information about the piece here, including some writing that describes how the composition and spatial sound design work.
